Trouble by Gary Schmidt
If you enjoyed Wednesday Wars, here is a new Gary Schmidt treasure for you to enjoy. This story has the feeling of a tale, told by a master storyteller. Henry lives with his family in Blythbury-by-the-Sea, a home built far enough away from Trouble, that Trouble can never find it. However, one day Trouble comes. His older brother Franklin is hit by a pickup truck whose owner is a young Cambodian refugee. The town seethes with Trouble in the form of anger, grief, and racial tension. Henry decides to take the trip to Mt. Katahdin that he and Franklin had originally planned together. A beautiful tale of friendship, pain, and acceptance. I loved it!

I enjoyed this book too! We're hosting Gary Schmidt for our annual middle school author visit in October.
I'm glad you liked it too.
I was surprised to hear some comments from people who thought it was too contrived!
