Maddy is born with a runemark - a magical kind of birthmark. Turns out she is the granddaughter of Odin, and one of a new generation of Norse gods. The book tells Maddy's story as she attempts to save Odin from death and prevent the destruction of the nine worlds of Norse mythology by a new religious order that wants to take the old gods down.
Mention of an as-yet unknown brother probably indicates a sequel to come.
This book is 526 pages long, and does not move quickly. The Norse gods and the townfolk are all given distinct personalities and many of their disagreements and ill feelings towards each other are alluded to or described.

I actually liked this book.
I agree it was awfully lonnng. But I loved the personalities of the Norse gods and Maddy!
I did like the personalities of the gods and villagers. But it will be very difficult for me to convince the teens to take this book off the shelf.
